Five favorites

Author C.S. Lewis' book-turned-movie "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" is released today on DVD and is surprisingly true to the novel. Not just for kids, this adventure movie incorporates many sophisticated themes into its seemingly child-tailored plot. It's definitely worth a buy.

Purchase designer denim at 60 percent off retail price this week. The Underground Denim Sale is setting up camp at MSU from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday in the Union Ballroom. While celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan and Kirsten Dunst cough up hundreds for their designer wear, you can buy the same for more than half off.

An advanced screening of the movie "American Dreamz," a sarcastic spin on American society, will take place Thursday at 9 p.m. in room B-108 of Wells Hall. Watch it before it hits theaters by picking up your free tickets in room 322 of the Union. MSU IDs are required to obtain passes.

Four words: Brokeback. Mountain. Released. Today. If you need more convincing, think Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger in cowboy getup. Or blast-from-the-past "Dawson's Creek" alumna Michelle Williams and grown-up "Princess Diaries" star Anne Hathaway. If you still don't see what all the fuss is about, just rent it. After all, it did win Oscars for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Score.

MSU alumnus and author Josh Kilmer-Purcell will be at Schuler Books & Music, 2820 Towne Centre Blvd. in Lansing, on Friday at 7:30 p.m. to promote his New York Times best-seller, "I Am Not Myself These Days." This memoir follows a period during Kilmer-Purcell's life when he performed as a drag queen in New York City. Check out the book, meet the author and support an MSU graduate.
