It blows my mind how impolite and unfriendly some students can be.
Call me overly sensitive, but when it comes to simple acts of kindness, a blatant lack of courtesy can be excruciatingly frustrating.
I can tolerate the small stuff.
When people fail to respond when I say hello, fine. When my door holding goes unnoticed, I'm OK with that, too.
Neither ignorance, na?veté nor negligence, however, can forgive a recent incident that happened to me.
After getting out of class, I was bicycling across Farm Lane when I hit a patch of ice. My bike fell on its side and I was sent sliding for nearly 10 feet until I hit the curb on the other side of the street.
Stunned, I lay there for a moment. When I finally managed to get to my feet, I was shocked that nobody came to assist me.
I am certain that many witnessed my spill. After all, a dozen cars sill waited for the light to turn green; somebody must have been looking out the window.
It's not like the sidewalk was empty, either; at least two students walked around me while I lay on the ground.
Thankfully, I was not seriously injured and I managed to limp back to my dorm.
It would have been nice if at least one person offered to help me up, asked me if I was okay or offered the slightest bit of assistance.
