Police briefs 03/28/06

Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries after the car they were in rolled over on southbound Interstate 127 near Interstate 496 at about 1 p.m. Monday, according to an East Lansing Police Department press release. The vehicle rolled over after a pickup truck attempted switching from the center lane to the left lane. The car was in the left lane and swerved onto the shoulder to avoid hitting the truck but ended up rolling over into the northbound lanes. Northbound I-127 was shut down between I-496 and Interstate Highway 96 for about 45 minutes after the accident.A 22-year-old student was arrested for assaulting another 22-year-old student at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday in West Shaw Hall, MSU police Lt. Scott Beckner said. The female student reportedly hit the male student with an open hand after the two got into an argument. The man had minor injuries, and the woman was arrested.A 16-year-old girl reported a man grabbed her around the waist and stole her cell phone at about 10 p.m. Friday at Breslin Center, Beckner said. The phone is valued at $200, and police weren't able to find the suspect.Melissa Domsic
