A suspect is on the loose, following the shooting of Sgt. Jeff Lutz of the Eaton County Sheriff's Department at about 3 a.m. Monday in Delta Township.While patrolling near Waverly Road and Saginaw Hwy., Lutz approached a suspicious person, who then shot him.Lutz is at home recovering from non-life threatening injuries.The suspect is described as a black male, about 25 years old, 5-foot-10, medium build, wearing dark clothing. A vehicle that was seen in the area and may be involved is described as a 1983-85 light colored or gray Oldsmobile Cutlass. Officers searched for the subject in the area until about 11 a.m. Monday.Police are asking for anyone with information to contact Det. Kevin Hearld of the Eaton County Sheriff's Department at (517) 323-8480.A 19-year-old student reported being assaulted by 17-year-old Kentwood woman between 12:20 and 1:20 p.m. Friday, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. The student was talking with the suspect in the suspect's car parked outside Gilchrist Hall. When the student tried getting out of the car, the suspect wouldn't let her out, McGlothian-Taylor said. The suspect then allegedly slapped the student and attempted to choke her, McGlothian-Taylor said. A passerby noticed the situation and helped the student out of the car. The student was not seriously injured and does not want to press charges. The case is still under investigation, McGlothian-Taylor said.Melissa Domsic
