As the temperature heats up to almost above freezing, it's time to think about ditching the bulky sweaters and clunky boots and changing into sheer tees and strappy sandals. Here's a run-down of the top clothing choices for spring from some of East Lansing's most popular stores:
Cargo
Cargo-style bottoms are everywhere for men and women. Long and cropped pants, Bermuda and short shorts and skirts all come in a wrinkled variety, with plenty of pockets and military detailing for women. Men can choose from cargo shorts and pants in a range of earth tones, some with embellishments such as woven belts or metal hardware.
Plaid
Vibrant plaids brighten up tops and bottoms for both sexes. Button-down shirts in blues, oranges and reds for men and women break up the earth tones that dominate this spring's fashions. Men can opt for worn-in plaid shorts or pants, making the preppy look seem a little more relaxed.
Tanks
A warm-weather essential for every female, tank tops this spring are anything but plain. Camis and halters are adorned with beads, sequins, lace, ties and bold patterns. Lightweight cotton tanks with embroidery and lace are available in styles just waiting to be ruffled by a warm breeze.
Sandals
This year's springtime shoes aren't your average flip-flops. Wedges and espadrilles with patterned fabric and ankle straps can add flavor to any outfit. For those with a desire for flatter footwear, flip-flops get a new spin with beads, sequins and shells. Blah outfits get a flash of brilliance with a mix of metallic sandals. Even men have more choices leather, canvas and rubber sandals in a variety of styles and colors.
Cropped pants
Love them or hate them, gauchos are back for warmer weather. This spring's gaucho pants are more structured, available in chino-style denim and khaki. Soft, knit gauchos are as comfortable as ever and come in an assortment of colors and cuts. For haters of gauchos, skinny cropped jeans sharply contrast the relaxed, loose style.
