Police briefs 02/17/06

A 10-inch water main broke Thursday near Snyder Road and Burcham Drive, said Greg Hicks, utilities supervisor for water and sewer at the East Lansing Department of Public Works & Environmental Services. The pipe broke at about noon, and the water was turned off to area residences until about 4 p.m., Hicks said. Burcham Drive was closed between Bailey Street and Alton Road.Police arrested two 18-year-old students after another 18-year-old student witnessed them walking through Holmes Hall carrying clear garbage bags full of items such as clocks and university shirts, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. The office area they came from was unlocked. The students are Holmes Hall residents and appeared intoxicated.An $800 Gateway desktop computer and monitor were reported stolen from a cubicle in the first floor of the Main Library between 7 p.m. Feb. 10 and 7:30 a.m. Monday, McGlothian-Taylor said. There are no suspects, and all but two of the doors to the area were secured.Melissa Domsic
