Five favorites

Every week, The State News presents five things going on in the world of pop culture that might make your life a little bit better.

1. "Breaking Free," sung by Zac Efron and Vanessa Anne Hudgens, shot up the Billboard charts to No. 4 this week from last week's No. 86. Never heard of it? We haven't either. The song is from the soundtrack to the Disney Channel's original movie "High School Musical" soundtrack, which is currently the No. 1 album on iTunes.

2. The trailer for the new Jack Black comedy "Nacho Libre" is on www.aintitcool.com. The movie, which will be released June 2, stars Black as a young man raised in a Mexican monastery who moonlights as a wrestler to raise money for an orphanage. If Black isn't enticing enough, the movie will be directed by Jared Hess of "Napoleon Dynamite" fame.

3. Revisit the first year of fond memories with the Seaver family. The complete first season of "Growing Pains" — released today on DVD — features Jason, Maggie, Mike, Carol and Ben in their debut as a Long Island family who can overcome any misadventures "as long as they've got each other."

4. For anyone who loved (or loved to hate) her on "Laguna Beach," "actress" Kristin Cavallari co-hosts the series premiere of "Get This Party Started" on UPN. The reality show promises to make dreams come true, working with an individual's family and friends to throw an extravagant and professionally planned event in their loved one's honor. The party starts tonight at 9 p.m.

5. Mariah Carey, John Legend and Kanye West were each nominated for eight Grammy awards. See if any of them actually win at the 48th annual award show Wednesday night at 8 p.m. on CBS.
