Player of the week

January 13, 2006

JEFF LERG
Freshman goaltender
Livonia

Last weekend against Wayne State, Lerg stopped 42 of 44 shots in 3-1, and 5-1 wins, respectively. On the season, Lerg has appeared in 11 games with a 3-2-3 record. He holds a 2.22 goals against average and a .913 save percentage and is The State News' player of the week.

The State News: Did you expect to play this much early on in your college career?
Jeff Lerg: I didn't come in just to be a backup, I came in to fight for ice time and hopefully earn it if I played well. I haven't been getting wins off the bat, but luckily I got two more (wins) under my belt.

SN: How would you rate your play this season?
JL: I thought I've played well in every game that I've been in. A couple soft goals on the year, but I think other than that I've been playing well and trying to give my team a chance to win. That's kind of my job — give our team a chance to win.

SN: Is there anything in particular you credit your playing time to?
JL: Just practice, hard work. Preparation the night before I get to the game, kind of prepare throughout the whole day, make sure when I get out on the ice to make a statement out there.

SN: Have you been notified if you will play against Alaska Fairbanks this weekend?
JL: I haven't heard anything yet (as of Wednesday). I'm hoping I can get a game in this weekend, either Friday or Saturday. I'm hoping to get at least one in this weekend.
