Five favorites

Every week, The State News presents five things going on in the world of pop culture that might make your life a little bit better.

1. If you love to listen in on other people's conversations, you will love www.overheardinnewyork.com. The Web site updates daily — sometimes more than once — with amusing one-liners and conversations overheard on the subway, the street, in stores, at work or at school. The best part is the clever nicknames given to people such as "hipster girl" or "hobo." The people who run the site even recently published a book with the same name. Also check out similar sites for humor in other places such as www.overheardintheoffice.com, www.overheardindublin.com and www.overheardinphilly.com.

2. It seems as though everyone is playing the addictive number game Sudoku, even The State News joined the bandwagon when it started running the puzzle this semester. For more Sudoku, check out http://www.statenews.com/puzzles.phtml for an online version of the popular game.

3. This week's episode of MTV's "True Life" is "I Have Gay Parents" and looks as though it will be an interesting and enlightening look from teens' viewpoints. The show examines three teens who have gay parents and documents their experiences. "True Life: I Have Gay Parents" airs at 10 p.m. Thursday on MTV.

4. The song "Grillz" by Nelly featuring Paul Wall, Ali and Gipp is No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and it doesn't look like it's leaving anytime soon. See Nelly's bling-bling "grill" in the music video for the song, which is still on heavy rotation on MTV.

5. Does David Hasselhoff's hairy chest make you squirm? Go to www.waxhoff.com to simulate waxing Hasselhoff's chest — and make sure you turn up the sound. We predict you'll be hooked after one visit. Better yet, Google Hasselhoff's name and discover all the wacky, disturbing yet amusing and psychotic Web sites out there on everyone's favorite "Knight Rider."
