• A female student spotted a man taking her books from a desk in the Main Library on Wednesday and putting them into a bag, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.When the student approached the man, he told her he was with library security and was checking for stolen books, she said.The man returned the books and left, and the student called police. Police searched the area and were unable to find the man, but the student saw him at the Union and called police again, McGlothian-Taylor said.When police contacted the man, he had two textbooks and claimed to be a Lansing Community College student, but provided officers with false identification, McGlothian-Taylor said.Officers found another piece of identification on the man and learned there were warrants out for his arrest from East Lansing, Detroit and Charlotte, McGlothian-Taylor said.The man was arrested and transported to the East Lansing Police Department, she said.• Two Rather Hall residents were robbed of $2,415 worth of belongings when they fell asleep with their door unlocked early Wednesday morning, an MSU police report states.A laptop, two pairs of boots valued at $100 each and a pair of shoes were taken from one of the residents, McGlothian-Taylor said.The other resident lost four pairs of jeans, four shirts, two pairs of shoes, a pair of boots and a toaster that also makes coffee and tea, McGlothian-Taylor said.The case is under investigation, she said.• Two Lansing residents were charged with conspiracy to commit larceny from a building on Thursday in East Lansing's 54-A District Court, according to a release from the Michigan State Police.Freddie A. Burtley and Edward G. Kluge are accused of stealing state-owned laptop computers from the State of Michigan Surplus Warehouse in Lansing, the release states. Both men are employees of the Michigan Department of Management and Budget, according to the release.If convicted, they could face up to four years in prison and/or a $15,000 fine for the conspiracy charge and four years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine for larceny.Margaret Harding
