Arts happenings

Today, Friday, Saturday: "A Day in the Death of Joe Egg" presented by Unique Minds, a production group dedicated for and with mentally challenged young adults. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. at the Arena Theatre in the Auditorium. Tickets cost $5.

Friday: The Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestra led by its final guest conductor, John Morris Russell for "Russell's Comet." The performance is at 8 p.m. in Wharton Center and tickets cost $10-$42 from www.LansingSymphony.org or (517) 487-5001.

Friday, Saturday: "Taking Sides" presented by the Riverwalk Theatre Black Box at the Creole Gallery, 1218 Turner St., in Lansing. Performances are at 8 p.m. and cost $10 from www.riverwalktheatre.com or (517) 482-5700.

Saturday: "Anthropology Super Saturday" at Impression 5 Science Center, 200 Museum Dr. in Lansing. Activities for all ages last from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $5 for adults, $3.50 for seniors and students and free for children three and under.

Saturday: Butch Thompson's New Orleans Jazz Originals at Pasant Theatre. The performance is at 8 p.m. and tickets cost $33.50 or $15 for students with ID from www.whartoncenter.com or (800)-WHARTON.

Tonight: The Casionauts, The Hard Lessons and The Recital at The Temple Club, 500 E. Grand River Ave., in Lansing. Doors open at 8 p.m. The first band begins at 9 p.m. Cost is $8 for 18-20 and $6 for 21 and up.

Melissa Ferrick with Natalia Zukerman at Creole Gallery, 1218 Turner St., in Lansing. The show begins at 9:30 p.m. The 7:30 p.m. show is sold out. Ferrick is signed with Atlantic Records and will play songs from her latest release, "The Other Side." Tickets cost $15 and are available at Elderly Instruments, 1100 N. Washington, in Lansing or at Archives Book Shop, 517 W. Grand River Ave. or by credit card with a $2 fee per ticket at www.creolegallery.com or by calling (517) 487-9549.

Friday: Mac's Bar, 2700 E. Michigan Ave., in Lansing: White Horse starring Lyle Carmichael with Gambit the MC in a talk show format with stand-up comedy and skits. There also will be DJ sets by DJ Benny Ben and DJ Snakes. Funk and jazz music will be provided by Corporate Gun with special guest the Invisible Man. Doors are at 9 p.m. The cost is $8 for 18-20 and $6 for 21 and up.

Saturday: The High Strung record release party with Bradford and The Peddlers at Mac's Bar. Doors open at 9 p.m. The cost is $8 for 18-20 and $6 for 21 and up.
