Kudos to Josh McFarland for his recent letter: "Students are here permanently also" (SN 11/9).
Indeed, The State News bares some responsibility as it continually distinguishes between "resident" and "student" in articles where the distinction is not important to understanding the story.
The broad discourse in this community also draws a bright line between "resident" and "student." It seems one cannot be both. This is reinforced by official city policy (i.e. rental restrictions) and a university administration that seems to be numb to true student concerns.
