Just enjoying the college life

November 1, 2005

Greg Hatch (left) and his roommates enjoy the nice weather by socializing outside their Linden Street home. Hatch worries about a proposed ordinance to make beer pong and other outdoor drinking games a party indicator that could lead to a steeper noise fine.

"Students are going to be drinking anyway," said the electrical engineering senior. "It's nice to be able to do it outside."

The policy is an attempt by the city council to curb the ongoing noise problem in the city that often brings complaints from both other students and permanent residents. Economics senior Alicia Bagley (middle), who also lives in the house, said she can understand having a noise ordinance, but says it can be adjusted.

The restrictions are based on a misconception that students are only here to party, Bagley said. "We do our work during the week," she said. "This is how we have fun."
