Jake Ellsworth smokes when he goes to the bar, and while he doesn't believe everyone should have to partake in the habit, he doesn't see the proposed smoking ordinance as an answer.
The interdisciplinary humanities senior sees the proposed ordinance, which would force bars to keep a section smoke-free for the entire night, as something that would infringe on his right to do so. The individual bars should decide, not the city, he said.
"When people go to the bar, they expect it to be smoky," he said. "Leaving one section open wouldn't really even change anything."
To Ellsworth, he sees the proposed ordinance as a small step toward possibly banning smoking in bars in the future.
"This is a bad law that seems to be trying to open the door to have further restrictions," he said.
