Designing with Enerficiency

Enerficiency has a perfect home a story above the sidewalk of Grand River Avenue.

Its co-owner, Douglas Black, knows he'd have more walk-in clients if he was on the first floor, but location isn't his top concern.

"My clients don't come to me, I go to them," Black said. "They contact me through the Internet."

Enerficiency, 210 Abbott Road Suite 18, designs solutions for home owners and renters to make their buildings perform better. Black and his partner, Chris Hughes, analyze buildings to design ways to reduce electricity, heating and hot water costs.

Black began his business in 1999 and worked from home until 2002 when he moved to his current small location in the aging Abbott Upstairs.

"This is an ideal spot for me," Black said. "Sometimes the birds will sit outside on the trees and I swear they're looking inside at me."
