Music

Friday: Neil Young Tribute Show at Mac's Bar, 2700 E. Michigan Ave., in Lansing with Dirt Road Logic, Mike Vasas and the Beasts of Burden, Westrin & Mowry, The Casionauts, Bloodwings, The Pantones, The Gentlemen Callers, Willemena, Billy Jackson, Rootstand, The Good Mornings, Hoodang, Paul's Big Radio, Corndaddy, John Wesley Harding Overdrive, Jen Sygit, Certified Angus, Hugh Jorgan Luau Band, Doom with a View, Fire Wheel Handshake and Cameron Craig.

Some door sales and T-shirt profits will benefit Lansing's Council Against Domestic Violence's homeless shelter and Bridge School.

Doors are at 7 p.m. $6 for 21 and over only.

Friday: Zeke, Know Lyfe, Sintherom and Funender at The Temple Club, 500 E. Grand River Ave., in Lansing. Doors are at 8 p.m. $8 in advance, $10 for 21 and up at the door and $12 for 18-20 at the door.

"In Her Shoes," starring Cameron Diaz and Shirley MacLaine. Rated PG-13.

"Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit," with the voices of Peter Sallis and Helena Bonham Carter. Rated G.

"Waiting…," starring Ryan Reynolds and Anna Faris. Rated R.

"Two for the Money," starring Al Pacino, Matthew McConaughey and Rene Russo. Rated R.

Theatre

Today, Friday and Saturday: "Born Yesterday," an MSU Theatre Department production. Pasant Theatre at the Wharton Center. Performances are 7:30 p.m. Thursday and 8:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets cost $8.50 plus a $1.50 restoration fee. See the review in today's lowdown.

Friday: "Moral Obligations" performance by Sunsets with Shakespeare in conjunction with the Alliance of Lesbian, Bi, Gay and Transgender and Straight Ally Students. Beaumont Tower Greens at 6:30 p.m. A talk with the cast will follow at 128 Natural Science Building. In case of weather complications, the performance will also take place in Natural Science.

Friday: "Dia de Los Muertos" opening exhibit reception from 7-9 p.m. Spiderhouse Market & Antiques, 515 E. Grand River Ave., in Lansing.


Sesquicentennial events

Friday, Oct. 7

5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Water Carnival. Starts at the viewing area by the MSU Auditorium, beside the Red Cedar River.

7:50 p.m.: Fireworks Spectacular on the banks of the Red Cedar River south of the MSU Auditorium.

9 p.m. to 1 a.m.: Sesquicentennial Celebration Dance. Featuring a performance by the 17-piece Jump Street Swing Band. Main Lounge, MSU Union.

Saturday, Oct. 8

Noon to 3:30 p.m.: Sesquicentennial Parade. The route: starts at the Frandor Shopping Center in Lansing, goes east on Michigan Avenue to Grand River Avenue, enters campus at the Collingwood Drive entrance.

4 p.m.: New Sparty Statue Dedication. Follows the parade, at Demonstration Hall Field near the Kalamazoo Bridge. MSU Champions Autograph Tent, after the statue dedication, where past and present members of MSU sports teams will be available for autographs.
