Reviewers immature, other views disagree

I was appalled at the juvenile way in which the two reporters presented a local Armenian restaurant in "Reporters tackle Armenian eatery" (SN 9/23).

The headline alone makes one think that the reporters started out with a confrontational attitude even before they reached the House of Kabobs restaurant. It is a friendly place with delicious food, so the word "tackle" is highly inappropriate.

Obviously, the two reporters had immature tastes and unsophisticated palates — so why send them to review a restaurant? To compare the meat-filled "blinchikee" to Hamburger Helper, to say "Ick" to pickled cabbage and to comment about the seasonings in a derisive way (they could have asked what spices were used) surely indicates that these two should not be sent out on such assignments.

Fortunately, there were enough positive comments about the food in the article to at least entice others to try it. The following Monday and Tuesday, the restaurant was full of MSU students who came to try Armenian food for themselves and they, too, were surprised by the inaccuracies of the review and the tastiness of the food.

I guess the quirky and somewhat negative publicity given to the House of Kabobs, 1825 E. Michigan Ave. in Lansing, was better than no publicity at all!

Next time please send out someone who really wants to try out a new restaurant and to report in a fair and mature way. The owners welcome all MSU faculty and staff to come and experience for themselves tasty food in a colorful and nicely decorated place — the only Armenian restaurant in Mid-Michigan!
