An MSU football player has been charged with several felonies that would have taken place while he was in high school.Cole Corey, a reserve safety, was arraigned on Monday in Lenawee County District Court, on charges that include first-degree criminal sexual conduct and delivery and possession of methamphetamine. He was also charged with distributing obscene material to children.A woman who answered the phone at Corey's home in Tecumseh said the family had no comment on the charges.Dan Geherin, Corey's attorney on record, said Corey was released on bond and plans to continue attending classes."Everyone is upset, surprised and angry," Geherin said.A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf this week. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 17 in Lenawee District Court. Corey, 20, could face up to life in prison if convicted of the most serious charges.Corey is still a member of the football team, said John Lewandowski, MSU associate athletics director for communications."This is an old case - something the coaches were not aware of in the recruiting process," Lewandowski said.The athletics department will see what happens with the case before making any changes, Lewandowski said,"We're going to let the legal process run its course," he said.Lewandowski said MSU head coach John L. Smith is "only aware of the news accounts, he's not aware of any of the specifics."• The belongings of five students were stolen from a lab room in Fee Hall after they were left unattended Wednesday afternoon, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.Items such as cell phones, wallets and cash were taken, adding up to a total loss of about $902, McGlothian-Taylor said.Witnesses described two suspects seen in the area. The first, a male, about 30 years old and 5 feet 7 inches tall, had brown shaggy hair, the police report stated. According the report, the second suspect is a male, also about 30 years old and about 5 feet 10 inches tall with black hair and a medium build.Margaret Harding
