Thanks for running the article "Stemming cures" (SN 10/18) about a new, less-objectionable form of embryonic stem cell research. I appreciated it, but noticed a point that needs clarifying.
The edit stated that the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops "will likely never approve stem cell research of any kind." I'm not sure that this was thoroughly researched; the conference itself states that it is not opposed to stem cell research. It only opposes embryonic stem cell research because harvesting stem cells kills the human embryo.
The conference and most other pro-life groups approve of adult stem cell research. Research on adult stem cells promises cures for many types of diseases without the ethical dilemmas involved in embryonic stem cell research.
