Michigan State Police detectives from the Lansing post have arrested a Charlotte woman suspected of embezzling close to $50,000 from her former employer.According to a police statement Nika Hankins embezzled the money from the Michigan Jaycees organization during an 18-month span in 2003 and 2004.She was arraigned for embezzlement for more than $20,000 in East Lansing's 54-A District Court on Tuesday, the release said. If convicted, Hankins could face 10 years in prison and/or $15,000 in fines or three times the amount embezzled. A 2004 Pantera Fusion moped was damaged early Friday morning by a group of unknown suspects, according to an MSU police report.The storage compartment of the red moped was kicked in while it was locked to the bike rack in the northwest area of Mason Hall, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.The owner, a 19-year-old female student, said she awoke to the sound of the suspects trying to take bikes off the rack, then watched them kick the moped, McGlothian-Taylor said.The damage was estimated at $100, McGlothian-Taylor said.Margaret Harding
