An MSU student lost a total of $1,018.22 in two fraudulent withdrawals from his account at Fifth Third Bank on Thursday and Friday. The Wilson Hall resident realized his account had been accessed on Friday and the bank closed his account. The money was withdrawn from an ATM outside of the East Lansing area, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. Another MSU student fell victim to an e-mail scam that promised a free Xbox and lost $792 from her checking and savings account at the MSU Federal Credit Union. The student received an e-mail on Sept. 4 informing her she won a free Xbox 360 and she believed it was legitimate, McGlothian-Taylor said. The Akers Hall resident submitted her name, room number, shipping address, credit card number and personal identification number and received an e-mail stating an Xbox had been reserved for her. According to the student's bank statement, the ATM used to withdraw the money was from out of state, McGlothian-Taylor said. MSU police are on the look-out for a silver Honda Civic after a hit-and-run at the Collingwood Drive entrance to East Circle Drive on Tuesday. A male student riding his blue Fuji Bicycle westbound on East Circle was struck by the car turning northbound, McGlothian-Taylor said. The driver stopped, but provided the victim with false contact information, McGlothian-Taylor said.Margaret Harding
