Hitchin' a ride, taxi style

The change from high school to college can be defined for many students by one event - getting rid of their cars.

Even though the majority of freshmen are sans automobile and get around by bike, many still want to see beyond MSU's borders.

The Capital Area Transportation Authority bus system is the answer for most. But for those who feel they need more freedom to see the area can cruise around via taxi cab.

Here are two popular local cab and van companies:

Big Daddy Taxi - A local staple when talking about East Lansing cabs, Big Daddy uses the large vans that are easily spotted with the "Who's your daddy?" logo along the side.

Price: $3 per person, or $2 per mile, whichever is more

Phone: (517) 367-7474

Plastic: Visa and MasterCard

Spartan-Yellow Cab - A Lansing company, cars not vans. Their vehicles are white sedans with a Spartans logo on the side.

Price: Metered, $2.25 initial and $1.80 per mile

Phone: (517) 482-1444

Plastic: American Express, Visa and MasterCard
