Snowstorm

Pedestrians and vehicle traffic slowly travel along Michigan Avenue on Tuesday morning in Lansing following a winter storm.

As of 1 p.m. Tuesday, 8.1 inches of snow had fallen in the Lansing area and an extra 1-2 inches was expected in the evening.

Many area residents and students had trouble commuting on snow-covered roads, but no major accidents were reported to police.

The storm began when two systems from the South and Northwest collided, said meteorologist David Beachler of the National Weather Service's Grand Rapids branch.
