Nightlives

7:59 p.m. Thursday A woman runs to catch up with friends on East Grand River Avenue as the streets fill with St. Patrick's Day patrons. "I wasn't done drinking green beer!" she shouted. Nationally, nearly 84.5 million people spent almost $2 billion on the St. Patrick's Day holiday. On average, consumers pumped $27.65 per person into items such as food, beverages and decorations.

After the sun has set, East Lansing continues to thrive deep into the early-morning hours. Throughout the city, students head to coffee shops to study, gamers log on and lines form outside many bars until late into the night. The evening can unfold in a plethora of ways - catching a cigarette outside a party or attempting a game of beer pong. After all of East Lansing's daylight activities have ended, the city does not rest - not at 8:16 p.m., midnight or even 6:45 a.m. on a holiday morning.
