Ellenich and Wong were both attending the Microfest Technology Fair put on by the MSU Computer Store. The event featured different vendors, prize giveaways and demonstrations throughout the day.

The latest in computer technology was on display in the Union ballroom Wednesday at the 2005 Microfest Technology Fair. The event was sponsored by the MSU Computer Store to bring students, faculty and technology vendors together.

The fair offered a variety of seminars on new products, product updates and new computing solutions from six different software and computer companies. Participants also were able to enter to win one of three iPod Shuffles.

Computer Store Manager Ron Rivard said the event was a good chance for students and faculty to learn about new products and brush up on their computing skills.

"It's a time to ask questions and see what's new," Rivard said.

The room was filled with new laptop and desktop computers allowing attendees to test-drive new models they were interested in.

Companies also gave away software demos to entice future purchases. Cronin displayed demo versions of the company's latest software.

Adobe sales representative Steve Cronin said the MSU fair was one of the last ones left in the state.

He said low student turnout has kept other universities from conducting technology fairs in recent years.

"Most people just come for the giveaways," said Cronin, who is responsible for higher education purchases in eight states.

He said the best reason to come to a fair is to participate in the seminars and learn new computing solutions.

"We spend years learning these programs," Cronin said. "People come away from our presentations all the time with new ideas and ways to use the features in our products."

International studies junior Crystal Collins came to the fair to look for a new laptop. While looking around, she won a book on graphic design programming.

"It's something I'm just playing around with," Collins said.

She said she took part in both the Adobe software and Apple computers seminars.

"It was good information and a great atmosphere," Collins said. "I'm glad I came - of course the free stuff helps."
