Columnist wrong in fan assessments

Chris Meagher's column "Jump on the MSU wagon" (SN 3/22) was very unprofessional. His utter disrespect, not only toward Duke, but also toward MSU fans was uncalled for. To say that everyone had already written off the Spartans before the tournament started was ridiculous. He put himself on a pedestal saying that no one had stood up for the team after analysts said they didn't have a chance. I don't remember him writing a column about it before now.

To refer to Duke as "Puke/Fluke," and calling J.J. Redick "Redneck" was ill-mannered. He brought up the fact that MSU has been to six of the last eight Sweet 16s. Big deal, Duke has been to eight straight Sweet 16s and 10 straight tournaments. If you want to bring up records in the tournament, I'll show the facts. From 1998-2004 Duke has one title, one loss in the championship game, two losses in the Final Four and two losses in the Elite Eight. In that same time span, MSU has one title, two Final Four losses, one Elite Eight loss, one Sweet 16 loss and two first-round losses.

Don't forget Tom Izzo hasn't beaten Mike Krzyzewski. Both are great coaches, but to be an elite team, MSU must beat other elite teams, which has not happened since Maryland in 2003.

If it sounds like I'm a Duke fan, that's because I am. I love MSU, and if they win I will still be happy. I just hope to see a good game.
