Businessman offers Israel scholarships

March 4, 2005

Scholarships are available for MSU students to study in Israel.

The scholarships have been made possible by an endowment from Detroit businessman Ed Levy Jr. The fund will provide up to 12 scholarships this summer, ranging from $2,000 to $5,000, and are open to all students.

The university lifted a ban on giving financial aid to students studying independently in Israel after recommendations from the Jewish Studies Program and the MSU Security and Risk Assessment Committee. MSU doesn't sponsor any official programs in Israel.

The deadline to apply for scholarships provided by the Levy fund is March 15, and students need to apply now to get financial aid for both summer and fall semesters.

Interested students should contact the Jewish Studies office at (517) 432-3493.
