University computer system hacked into

Last week, the server that houses the MSU library's computer system, Magic, was broken into, possibly exposing the personal information of about 100,000 members of the MSU community.

Officials in Academic Computing and Network Services noticed activity on the server Thursday and took it offline the same day. Officials said there is no reason to believe any personal information was taken.

People whose data might have been on the server include students who enrolled at MSU during the last three years, active library users, both now and in the past, and faculty and staff.

Information stored on the server includes names, addresses, student PID numbers and Social Security numbers.
