A 20-year-old male MSU student was found dead Tuesday evening in an East Lansing residence on the 300 block of Spartan Avenue, officials said.
The student's name is not being released because the family has not been notified, East Lansing police Sgt. Brian Horn said.
Police would not say if the student lived in the residence.
A cause of death has not been determined and did not appear to involve foul play, Horn said.
Officers on the scene said the death was not a suicide and that prescription medication might have been a factor, but Horn would not confirm the information.
At about 6:30 p.m., police responded to a call that a body was found in a bedroom in the residence.
Agency vehicles, including an ambulance, an East Lansing Fire Department truck and various police cars surrounded the duplex.
The lights were on in most of the rooms in half of the two-story building where the student was found.
Windows outlined by dark shutters glowed yellow against a mostly dark street.
Only one police vehicle's lights were flashing, illuminating the scene in occasions of muted yellow light. There was no police tape and the ambulance and fire truck left shortly after arriving with lights off and sirens silent.
As frozen rain fell, college-age students came in and out of the building, standing outside on the back deck and in the driveway running alongside, smoking, using cell phones and generally silent.
Those on the scene refused to comment.
Curious neighbors also quietly appeared in windows and open doors up and down the street.
Officers were on the scene for about two-and-a-half hours.
As police left, two college-age people came upon the scene, asking for information. After speaking with an officer, a man walked up to the residence while yelling profanities.
More information about the incident will be available today, Horn said.
