A large Japanese ceramic statue of a shishi, a lion and dog hybrid, now stands alone to guard the entrance of the Kathleen D. and Milton E. Muelder Japanese Garden.Its 40-pound match in the Clarence E. Lewis Landscape Arboretum on Service Road was reportedly stolen sometime between midnight Dec. 13 and 9:30 a.m. Friday, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.The statue is valued at $3,000 and was donated to the horticulture department in 2002, she said. The missing statue's mouth is open and the remaining statue's mouth is closed.The statue was attached with contractor's glue, but there were no signs of scraping or damage to the pillar where the missing statue stood, McGlothian-Taylor said.The case is still under investigation, and there are no suspects.• An 18-year-old female student reported her room key, MSU ID card and bus pass were taken from the door of her East Akers Hall residence between 4:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. Friday, McGlothian-Taylor said.The student told police she had unlocked her door and forgot to take the key out. When she went to get the key, with the ID and bus pass attached, they were gone. There are no suspects, and the case is still under investigation.Lauren Phillips
