A 39-year-old female student had her laptop stolen and returned on Monday evening with the help of a 63-year-old professor and an 18-year-old student, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.The 39-year-old told police she left the door to her Erickson Hall cubicle unlocked for three minutes while she went to the bathroom, and when she returned, she saw a man unplugging her laptop and stuffing it into his backpack.She asked what he was doing, and he said he was getting a book, McGlothian-Taylor said. He ran down the east interior steps and out of the building, while the woman shouted, "He's got my laptop."She lost sight of the suspect in the lobby, but a 63-year-old female professor heard the student's cries and followed the suspect out the door, chasing him westbound along the south bank of the Red Cedar River, McGlothian-Taylor said.As they left Erickson Hall, an 18-year-old male student told police he saw the professor running after the suspect and yelling for him to stop, so he joined the chase through the courtyard between Wells Hall and the International Center.The 18-year-old student caught up to the suspect in the parking lot north of Spartan Stadium. With only one car separating them, the student told police he said, "I don't know what you did, but you'll have to come with me."The suspect replied, "You are fast," and threw down the laptop before he escaped on foot through the parking lot, McGlothian-Taylor said.The student brought the laptop back to Erickson Hall, where he returned it to the woman.The suspect is described as a 19-year-old white man with black eyes and black hair. He was 5-feet-7-inches and 175 pounds, wearing tan pants and a black coat. Police are still investigating the incident.• A 19-year-old female student reported $500 in damage when her car window was broken between Sunday and Monday nights, McGlothian-Taylor said.The student told police the rear window of her 1994 Mercury Villager was smashed with an unknown tool. The interior of her car was undisturbed, and nothing was missing.Police have no suspects.
