WHAT IS IT?
A comfy set of couch pillows made from your old favorite T-shirts that you might have outgrown or accidentally shrunk in the wash.
USEFULNESS FACTOR
If you're tired of old shirts just taking up space in the back of your closet, then this might be the craft for you. With a few snips and stitches, you can turn those old workout clothes into throw pillows or pillow cases to add a little comfort to a less-than-furnished futon or TV chair.
ITEMS NEEDED:
A few old and clean T-shirts, dress shirts or sweatshirts
Needle and thread, or bonding tape and iron
Foam batting (can be found in the craft section of Meijer)
A pair of scissors
GET STARTED:
-
1. Start by laying a shirt flat on a table and - using the scissors - cut the sleeves and collar off the shirt.
2. Turn the shirt inside out and hem the bottom of the shirt with either the needle and thread, or bonding tape.
3. Turn it right-side out and stuff it with as much foam batting as will fit.
4. Fold the top of the T-shirt over and create a hem by stitching around the edges of the fabric, or attaching the edges together with bonding tape.
5. If you have a few pockets left from your discarded shirts, you can cut them out and sew them to the front of the pillow to create a nifty little remote- control holder.
6. Take your newly created pillows and toss them on a couch, the floor, your favorite TV chair or pretty much anywhere your room is lacking a little comfort and personality.
TOTAL COST
The foam batting costs about $2.
CHALLENGE LEVEL
On a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the Martha Stewart challenge, this is a 1. If sewing isn't exactly your forte, these throw pillows can easily be created with bonding tape and about ten minutes of your time.
OUR THOUGHTS
These T-shirt Toss Pillows will instantly up the comfort level of your favorite lounge chair. With minimal effort, this craft is something that all college students can fit into their busy schedules.
