A 20-year-old female student reported a cash box stolen from the West Wilson Hall desk Tuesday night, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. The woman was counting the contents of the cash box just before midnight when a white male in his early 20s approached the counter. The man was 6 feet tall and 230 pounds with blond hair. When asked if he needed help, the man said he was waiting for a friend. The student finished counting money and closed the cash box, and the man asked for paper to leave a note for his friend. He asked the woman to put the note in a mailbox, and the student said she would do it shortly. The man reportedly became uncomfortable and asked that she do it immediately. When the woman returned from putting the note in the box, located farthest away from the reception desk, she found both the man and the cash box gone. The $25 cash box contained 100 meal tickets, $187 in currency and $14.80 in postage, McGlothian-Taylor said.A witness told police he noticed a male wearing a blue or gray hooded sweatshirt and jeans matching the woman's description running down a hall carrying a cash box. He reportedly ran out Wilson Hall's south doors and into the parking lot.An MSU police K-9 unit searched the area, but could not locate the suspect. An 18-year-old West Holmes resident reported several harassing phone calls from an ex-boyfriend early Monday morning, McGlothian-Taylor said. The student told police she received between six and eight phone calls from her ex-boyfriend between Sept. 1 and Monday. When she received another call Monday at 5 a.m., she hung up and received nine more calls from the 19-year-old ex-boyfriend.The two broke up a year ago, and knew each other in high school. The ex-boyfriend does not go to MSU, but has an East Lansing address.Officers contacted the man, who said he would not call again. The student told police she did not want to press charges.
