It has been dubbed part of the axis of evil by President Bush, and now, with the help of the Asian Studies Center, a broader understanding of North Korea will be brought to MSU.
As part of a three-day series, issues plaguing both North and South Korea will be brought up in film and by a speaker.
At 4 p.m. today in room 303 of the International Center, Doug Kim will speak as part of "Understanding North Korea."
Kim, a member of the advisory committee for the reunification of Korea will discuss the prospects of integrating North and South Korea and look at the international relations of North Korea, said Marilyn McCullough, assistant director of the Asian Studies Center.
To further explore relations between North and South Korea, the film "Joint Security Area" will be shown at 7 p.m. Wednesday in B106 Wells Hall. The film deals with a soldier who is helped by the supposed enemy and the consequences of these actions, McCullough said.
A documentary called "North Korea, Beyond the DMZ" will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday at the same location.
"The second film takes one of the first groups of South Koreans to the north to see family members they have heard nothing about for 40 years," McCullough said.
"It is one of the few films that will give you some good footage of North Korea."
