At least one of the sexual assault cases on campus this semester was sent to the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office Monday, MSU police said.
Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III said he received one case Monday that a lawyer in his office had given him to review for a second opinion.
"If they were just sent today, I haven't seen them yet," Dunnings said about any additional cases.
He declined to give further information about the case he had seen.
MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said she could not specify which of the cases were sent from the department.
This is the first step toward arrests in the cases stemming from recent sexual assaults on campus. The completed investigations will go to the county prosecutor, who reviews them and issues warrants. The police then use the warrants to make arrests and set court actions in motion.
There has been no arrest in last week's Mayo Hall acquaintance rape, McGlothian-Taylor said, citing an error in information on the MSU police blotter.
There have been 11 sexual assaults on MSU's campus this semester. The most recent was the acquaintance rape in Mayo Hall.
Meetings will be held this week for Safety Awareness Week in Mason and Abbot halls, and began with a program for alcohol awareness held Monday night.
In the Abbot Hall lobby, MSU police officers will talk about campus safety at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and representatives from MSU Safe Place will discuss domestic violence at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
