Books & bargains

October 5, 2004

Patrons of the East Lansing Public Library will have a chance to own copies of novels written by authors and poets such as Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Sylvia Plath.

A book sale, planned by the Friends of the East Lansing Public Library, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 1-3 p.m. Sunday. The library is located at 950 Abbott Road.

"Our proceeds go to buying materials above and beyond the library's budget," said Chris Korest, co-president of the Friends of the East Lansing Public Library. "This past year we gave the library money to purchase computer equipment for people with vision, hearing and learning disabilities."

The semi-annual event is bigger than those in previous years.

"We have just received so many donations from people in the community," Korest said. "We have such a large amount of them, we have to have two sales a year to clean out the back room."

In addition to regular books, the sale offers something unique to the literary-inclined.

"We do have tables of collectable, higher priced, rare books," Korest said.

For more information on the sale, contact the East Lansing Public Library at (517) 351-2420.
