Money wasted on unused access

I'm a little concerned by the recent article and news that MSU looks to be under more pressure for more accessibility to the buildings on campus ("Opening doors," SN 5/27). I graduated more than a year ago, and spent four straight years at MSU, including living on campus for two summers. I can tell you that I have never, ever seen anyone who legitimately needed to use a handicap entrance use one. I was in awe at the extent to which MSU makes every building accessible to people with disabilities, but also in awe that the few don't need such time, money and effort spent on them. It can't be cheap to put these sorts of modifications on every entrance, and it bothers me that they take student money to do this. After four years, and never seeing one person ever in a wheelchair or another device have to ever use a door makes me say that they (modifications) are not worth the price for the very, very few.
