File-sharing focus of upcoming symposium

"The Challenges of Peer-to-Peer File Sharing" symposium will be held on April 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. in Room 147 of the Communication Arts and Sciences Building.

The symposium, hosted by the Department of Telecommunication, Information Studies and Media, will feature file-sharing experts from the University of Michigan and MSU.

John King, U-M School of Information professor and dean, is the event's featured speaker and will address "P2P Systems and the Music Industry's Crisis of Adjustment."

Other speakers will be James Hilton, U-M's associate provost for Academic, Information and Instructional Technology Affairs, presenting "When Worlds Collide: P2P, Law, and Academic Tradition," and David Gift, MSU vice provost for Libraries, Computing and Technology, who will discuss "Responding to P2P Challenges on the Campus Community."

This event is free and open to the public.
