Baseball team loses series finale at UNLV

The MSU men's baseball team dropped its series finale at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas on Sunday with a 20-8 loss, ending its three-game series at 1-3. The Spartans opened the three-game series, held at the Earl E. Wilson Stadium, with a win on Friday before losing the last two games on Saturday and Sunday.

The Spartans got an early lead in the third game, scoring three times in the opening inning. But in the bottom of the inning, the Rebels sent four men home, scoring two runs on just two hits.

UNLV ran with its lead in the middle innings, scoring 11 runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Spartans starter Jeff Gerbe issued three walks in two innings and allowed five earned runs on six hits.

MSU begins an eight-game road trip in Jacksonville, Fla., on Friday against Western Michigan.
