Teleconference focuses on civic engagement

On Thursday, nearly 60 college campuses in 27 states will participate in the National Teleconference on The New Student Politics.

Students at MSU can participate in the teleconference from the broadcast auditorium of the Communication Arts and Sciences Building from 1:45 to 3:15 p.m.

They'll examine the student view of democracy, the university's responsibility for student participation and the role of community in higher education.

Attendees will be able to submit their questions to a national panel of students, former students and university officials.

The conference is part of the national "Raise Your Voice: Student Action for Change Campaign."

MSU Professor David Cooper of the Department of Writing, Rhetoric and American Cultures will moderate the panel.

Ernie Boone, director of the Black Child and Family Institute of Lansing and member of the MSU School of Journalism faculty, will speak on the six-person panel.

Seating in the auditorium is limited, so those interested should e-mail servlrn@msu.edu or call (517) 353-4400.
