February 25, 2004

The MSU women's swimming and diving team took 10th place at the 2004 Big Ten Championships on Feb. 18-21 at the University Aquatics Center in Minneapolis.

The Spartans broke four varsity relay records during the competition. In one record-breaking performance, the 400 free relay team of Tammy Jones, Katrina Kniff, Alicia Copestick and Eve Brusie broke last year's 400-yard record of 3:24.87 with a time of 3:22.96.

Jones, Kniff and Brusie, along with Rachael Hagerman, broke an MSU record in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:32.66. This year marked the second straight year MSU's 200 free relay team has broken the school event record at the Big Ten Championships.

Jones also swam the 100 free in 50.49, breaking her record at last year's competition of 50.77.

The MSU men's swimming and diving team will travel to the Big Ten Championships on Feb. 26-28 at Purdue.
