Curves for Women

Women looking to work out but want to drop the musclehead males at the gym are finding a home at Curves for Women.

Curves, 3498 Lake Lansing Road, offers time-friendly workouts that focus on female fitness.

"The camaraderie here and the excitement is fantastic," said Jennifer Decker, conference coordinator of Community, Agriculture, Recreation and Resource Studies. "We're all trying to achieve the same goals."

The women's fitness facility offers a strength-training and cardiovascular workout in 30 minutes. Curves promises weight loss and health improvement results when the prescribed 90 minutes of exercise is followed each week.

The main workout area is set up in a circuit format with alternating hydraulic resistance system workout equipment and platforms to walk or jog in place.

MSU's IM facilities also offer cardio equipment and classes targeted toward women, officials say.

Brittany Kaplan said she likes to walk to IM East from her McDonel Hall room.

"I like the cardio here at IM East," the journalism and English sophomore said. "It's right across the street and it's cheap."
