Beech lands in record books with strikeouts

Spartans softball finished 1-1 Saturday at the first day of the UNLV Tournament.

In the first shutout of the season, MSU defeated Butler, 6-0. MSU senior pitcher Jessica Beech moved into second place all time at MSU when she struck out 10 players in the game. The game was Beech's 17th career shutout.

Against the University of Nevada-Las Vegas Rebels, the Spartans lost 3-2 in eight innings. Senior first baseman Nat Furrow, who was 4-of-6 at the plate during the tournament, accounted for half of the Spartans' hits in the game.

The last two games set for Sunday at UNLV were rained out, and MSU is now 3-3 for the season.

The Spartans play next in Miami at the Florida International Tournament, Friday through Sunday.
