BLUES
"A Fix Back East," Tarbox Ramblers, Rounder Records.

This group of Boston natives has the energy of a punk band, but is mostly influenced by blues, gospel and Americana. Check out the CD or catch the group Feb. 9 at One Trick Pony, 136 Fulton St. E. in Grand Rapids.

JAZZ
"Homage," James Moody, Savoy Jazz.

Moody is one of the best-known jazz saxophonists in the world. He's worked with Miles Davis and has been performing since the 1940s. He'll bring his marvelous talent to the Wharton Center on Feb. 13 as part of the Newport Jazz Festival.

ROCK
"Join the Dots: B-sides and Rarities, 1978-2001," The Cure, Elektra.

The dark wonders, The Cure, have gone and released a 70-song compilation to appease their many loyal fans.

RAP/HIP-HOP
"Dope or Dog Food," Z-Man, Red Urban.

Z-Man is a San Francisco native and an important emerging artist to know. Z-Man draws a lot upon old-school rappers such as Public Enemy, Run-DMC and Big Daddy Kane as well as newer bling-bling slingers such as Jay-Z.

FOLK
"One Moment More," Mindy Smith, Vanguard.

Mindy Smith is a talented folk guitarist blessed with a voice that fits beautifully with her guitar work.

COUNTRY
"Plain Dirt Fashion/Partners, Brothers and Friends," The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Wounded Bird.

This country/folk/rock hybrid of a band formed in the '60s with Jackson Browne and has seen many changes within the band since its inception.
