One man was arrested and another hospitalized after an altercation that ended in a stabbing early Monday morning at Capstone Commons Apartments, 2501 Abbott Road.
East Lansing police Sgt. Jeff Murphy said two men, both unaffiliated with MSU, got into an argument in the parking lot of the apartment complex around 2 a.m. Monday. Police believe the men were attending a party hosted by a resident of the apartments.
The dispute escalated into a fight when one man, a 21-year-old Northville resident, pulled out a knife and stabbed the man he was fighting with, a 21-year-old Kalamazoo resident.
The victim was stabbed three times in the knee, ribs and chest. Murphy said his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
By the time police arrived on the scene, friends had taken the victim to Lansing's Sparrow Hospital. It is unknown whether he has been released.
Murphy said officers found the suspect inside the apartment where the party was held and arrested him without incident. He is expected to be arraigned this afternoon in 54-B District Court.
"Even though it was a stabbing, I don't think it was some random thing," said hospitality business sophomore and Capstone Commons resident Beth Firenze. "I'm not very worried about it."
The doors to the Capstone Commons apartment buildings are kept locked and visitors have to be let in by a resident.
"I always felt that our building was pretty secure," Firenze said. "It doesn't bother me that much."
