At the movies

December 4, 2003

"The Cat in the Hat"

The only way they could have desecrated the memory of Dr. Seuss any more was to say he loved to eat children. As far as kiddie flicks go, this is real bad.
Rated PG
2 stars

"Elf"

A charming holiday flick that is perfect for the whole family. Will Ferrell tones down the sex humor, but it won't stop you from laughing.
Rated PG
3 and ½ stars

"Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World"

A sea epic that, despite the lack of a real villain, is exciting enough to warrant the price of a ticket.
Rated PG-13
3 stars

"The Missing"

A little cheesy at the end, but good acting from Tommy Lee Jones.
Rated R
3 stars

"Timeline"

Don't waste your time on this traveling flop.
Rated PG-13
2 stars

"The Station Agent"

A fresh and amusing tale of friends. The great cast and writing will make you want to stick around longer than the 88 minutes the film takes up.
Rated R
4 and ½ stars
