Tree-lighting, Santa highlight celebration

November 19, 2003

Downtown Lansing will be lit up from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday as the city hosts the Silver Bells in the City celebration.

The festival, in its 19th year, is designed to welcome the upcoming holidays. Buildings in the downtown district will be lit up and streetlight polls will be draped in garland to help bring in the holiday spirit.

Residents will be able to watch an electric light parade and a fireworks display. Live reindeer and Santa will be waiting to greet families at the Lansing City Market following the parade.

Other entertainment on hand will include clowns, a juggler, children's dance groups, choral groups, hand-bell choirs and storytellers.

Free parking is available in all city parking ramps and in designated parking lots. The Capital Area Transportation Authority will provide free bus service from 5 to 10 p.m. on special routes to the event.
