Masquerade ball expects 800 attendees

November 21, 2003

Two fraternities from MSU will be working with the makers of Red Bull energy drinks this weekend to produce the first ever masquerade charity ball at the Lansing Center, 333 E. Michigan Ave., in Lansing, from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Phi Kappa Tau will be raising money through the dance to benefit Paul Newman's "Hole in the Wall Gang Camp." The camp's main goal is to let children with cancer or other serious illnesses find friendships and happiness through activities that they might never have been able to do before.

The event's required attire is semi-formal, and the theme for the night was adapted from the steamy Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise movie, "Eyes Wide Shut."

DJ Malfunction and DJ Jus will be performing for the crowd along with MSU's hip-hop and street dance group Urban Dreams. A spokesman for the event said 800 people are expected to attend.

Tickets for the event are $15, and the price includes admission to the event, busing to and from the Lansing Center, hors d'houvres, masquerade masks and other giveaways.
