Hockey prepares for Green and White game

October 2, 2003

The MSU hockey team faces a familiar foe at 7:05 tonight at Munn Ice Arena - itself.

The annual Green and White exhibition will pin Spartans players against one another, serving as warm-up for Sunday's 2:05 p.m. exhibition game against the University of Windsor at Munn. The game will consist of two periods, the first being 24 minutes of five-on-five play and the second, a total of 20 minutes with eight of those minutes four-on-four. The teams will be allowed four power plays each lasting for one minute and 30 seconds. The game will end with a shootout, which will allow everyone a chance to score.

MSU's regular season begins Oct. 10 at home in the Ice Breaker Tournament against Findlay of the CHA.

The icers are excited to get into a game-type situation because practice can become more logistical at times.

"I can't wait," freshman goalie Dominic Vicari said. "Practicing gets boring after awhile. You want to get into game situations."

Today's game marks the second season behind the direction of head coach Rick Comley and the players have a positive outlook, returning from a 23-14-2 record and no postseason play a year ago.

"It's definitely going to be different and a lot of fun since we know what coach expects and a lot of hard work and stuff like that," junior goaltender Matt Migliaccio said.
