Liberalism doesn't support higher ed

Traditionally, college students and liberalism hold similar values; Democrats can always count on left-wing students as a reliable voting base.
Issues such as abortion, family values (or lack thereof) and homosexuality have polarized mainstream college issues; traditionally students have sided with liberals on these and other issues.
However, as a political hobbyist and student, I believe that the liberal doctrine stands in direct contradiction to students and higher education.
Take, for example, Gov. Jennifer Granholm's recent decision to limit state funding to public universities, while leaving social programs set.
As students, we are forced to pay more to effectively pay for other people's social benefits.
As students in political science courses, we're taught that the Constitution is the basis for the federal government.
However, issues (such as affirmative action) that directly violate the Constitution and its amendments are supported by the modern Democratic party.
We are also taught that hard work pays off in college. You will work hard for your degree while at this university, and in return, you will have a higher salary than someone just out of high school.
Yet students continue to support politicians who want to take their hard-earned money and give it to those who have the ability to work but no desire to do so.
The continual support of liberalism on college campuses is astounding, due to the lack of rational thought that is common in the modern Democratic Party.
Throughout my life, I always thought that those who went to college were intelligent and sensible people, but the continual support of liberals and their anti-Americanism and anti-education beliefs has shaken that image.
